World Elephants Day!

August 12, 2020 is the now annual World Elephants Day. I adore these powerful and dignified creatures. They are my favorite large wild life animal. Elephants are interesting and unique in a number of ways. African elephants are the largest and heaviest land mammals on earth, somewhat topping their Asian cousins. Elephants can be dangerous under certain circumstances, yet, are characteristically non threatening creatures in the right environment. They exhibit a great deal of familial, tribal and community affection. Under threat, however, they can be violent and given their size, that can be disastrously damaging and deadly.
All of them are in the Elephantidae family. There are three recognized species; African Bush Elephant, African Forrest Elephant (smaller than the Bush) and Asian Elephant (smaller than the African breeds).
